Sheri Stanford is a 25-year tourism industry veteran with a range of experience in travel planning, consulting, and research. The bulk of her expertise is creating, coordinating, and escorting international tours.
However, Sheri’s hands-on work in tourism planning and research has honed an astute grasp of sustainable tourism strategies, especially in the areas of quality and standards in hospitality services and forming destination partnerships that allow all stakeholders to preserve and simultaneously promote tourism assets.
She’s done consulting work with clients such as the Anacostia Trails Heritage Area, Grounds for Sculpture, and the Trenton Downtown Association. She also worked for the Belize Tourism Board as part of a consulting team contracted to create strategies to increase tourist and economic impact in the country’s emerging destinations.
Other projects include conceptualizing and developing post-secondary study abroad programs and curricula. One project was two faculty-led study abroad programs to Ghana through Brookdale Community College’s International Center. It was the College’s first West African program and the first to integrate volunteerism within the host community. The trip was so impactful that she has led numerous Sankofa infinity group tours to Ghana. Sheri also plans and leads tours for various affinity groups and develops travel fundraisers for nonprofits
Sheri’s focus is travel justice, and she is incredibly passionate about creating travel experiences that benefit the host community socially, environmentally, and economically.
Sheri holds a Master of Tourism of Administration with a concentration in Sustainable Destination Management from the George Washington University School of Business.
